So if you've been undervolting and trying to get the right balance of performance/temps, Dragon Center can be a big hindrance to that goal. So still some thermal throttling in benchmarks, but the gaming performance and temps are also much better. And rather than consistent thermal throttling, temps touch 90c toward the end of the test on a couple cores. With a -150mv undervolt, and turbo multiplier set to 34 when using all six cores, my highest score so far is 2639. Out of the box, my score in Cinebench was 2095, which disappointed me based on specs. In benchmarks, the CPU is now showing the full 45 W power, and boosting above as it should for short periods. So I decided to disable Dragon Center in Task Scheduler, and install Silent Option for fan control. There were also a couple posts mentioning that Dragon Center could interfere with Throttlestop settings, but they didn't go into specifics.
I googled for a reason, and most had to do with specific laptops being locked down by manufacturer, which should not have been the case with the GS65. I got temps down with undervolt/reduction in boost frequencies, but was encountering a problem where the maximum PKG Power would top out at 35.9 Watts. I'd read about Throttlestop, and had been working on my settings over the course of a couple days. Obviously, thermals and throttling were pretty out of control stock when running benchmarks. I am recently the proud owner of a GS65 with 8750h and RTX 2060.
